Find below the ultimate QLTS books list.
There are many options available but the Oxford University Press (OUP) Concentrate Books are in my opinion the best choice for the MCT preparation.
This is the list of the books I will buy.
English Legal System Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Tim Vollans and Glenn Asquith
EU Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Sylvia Hargreaves and Matthew J. Homewood
Public Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Colin Faragher
Contract Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Jill Poole
Tort Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Carol Brenna
Equity & Trusts Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Iain McDonald and Anne Street
Criminal Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Rebecca Huxley-Binns
Business Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by James Marson
Human Rights Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Bernadette Rainey
Land Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Victoria Sayles
Foundations for the LPC 2015-2016
They can be easily found on Amazon (.com, .co.uk) but also directly from Oxford University Press you can order and have them delivered to many countries for a small fee (around 10 £ for most countries other than the UK). They cost between 10 £ and 15 £ each:
This list will definitely be amended, updated and changed as I go by if needed, but at least it is a good starting point!
Just a reminder: these books are Revision and Study guides, and do offer a complete preparation but the flip side of the coin is that you must carefully select what to study and what to leave: if it is in the book, chances are it is extremely important. But my plan is not to waste time studying for topics that are not covered by the QLTS, I’d rather focus on what is in the Day 1 Outcome and leave all the rest behind.
In the next weeks I’ll try to select the most important topics from each book, starting with those from the first of the outcomes – A1 Knowledge of the jurisdiction, authority and procedures of the legal institutions and professions that initiate, develop, interpret and apply the law of England and Wales and the European Union.
The books I will be using for the first outcome are the first two of the list:
1.English Legal System Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Tim Vollans and Glenn Asquith
2. EU Law Concentrate: Law Revision and Study Guide by Sylvia Hargreaves and Matthew J. Homewood
And now, it’s time to crack on!
Cheers!
Hi, my name i s Marco too (another Italian lawyer!). As you wrote the necessity of changing was the idea that brought me in London in 2006-2008. Now the same necessity is bringing me in the unknown field of QLTS. Thank you for sharing with us your list. I wish you all the bests. Let’s keep in touch
p.s. please note that under SRA rules it is not possible to obtain information on the QLTS from people that attended it. This could be a problem for you. Be careful! link: http://qlts.kaplan.co.uk
Ciao Marco!
Yeah I have seen the link, and it is unfortunate as I believe that sharing is vital, particularly from successful candidates!
Let’s see what happens..
Ciao
Marco
Hi Marco,
Thanks for the blog. Since the last post is dated 2016 I was wondering if you’re still doing it? I’m thinking of going for MCT in July 2018 and having a network to share ideas and challenges would be wonderful.
Thanks again,
Bianca
Hi Bianca!
of course I still am, I’m just a bit slower but I posted in the last couple of weeks the new exam dates.
Please let me know if you need anything, and feel free to suggest any improvements for the blog!

Thank you all!!
Please guys, do not sell material from course providers on this blog
Thanks
send me an email on renidification@googlemail.com
Hi thanks for your blog, it is really informative!
How long do you think one should study for the mct – in terms of hour per day and numbers of days?
Is the material you suggest difficult to read?
Thanks!
Hi Maria
Personally I’m reading the concentrate series books for the first time.
It took me about two months to give them a first read, with about two/three hours per day.
I’ll be re-reading everything between now and July and in the meantime I’ll condense them into revision notes, as I don’t believe I will ever be able to read the entire books a third time.
I guess it very much depend on your skills (I’m a very slow reader) and on your study style.
Does anyone have any other tip?
Sara

Hi, same here! I am looking at starting the process of Jan 2018. A study guide would be great!
Hey,
I am a qualified lawyer from India (Common law Jurisdiction) and intend on giving the Feb 2017 attempt.
I am going to purchase the above books as suggested, however if anyone can share past year papers or any other study material apart from the book then that will be really helpful.
Thank you Alegher for this helpful post but i just wanted to ask if there are other people also referring to the books for QLTS exam?
Looking forward to hear from you.
Cheers!
Hello Dhanshree,
Yes it is possible to give QLTS MCT exams from India. I’ll be giving it from Mumbai.
Dhanshree, Hari, thanks for the comment.
The MCT session are now organised using the Pearson Vue platform and infrastructures. I’m sure there will be at least one location in India in February 2017, but remember that you have to register with them.
All th einfo can be found here (http://passtheqlts.co.uk/july-2016-mct-assessments-reminder-where-and-when/), and I’ll be posting updates in the future.
Best!
Dhanushree,
Yes I’ve registered with Pearson but the dates for Feb 2017 isn’t out as you know.
If you intend on studying together for the exam then you can contact me in hari.wadhwana@gmail.com. we can help each other for the MCT attempt 🙂
I am also preparing to sit MCT in Feb 2017. have you bought books and do u live the UK. Can we prepare jointly?
please replay me z.warraich1@gmail.com
Thanks Hari for your reply. Now I can plan to go for solicitors hopefully. I am planning to give it in next year July 2017. As I can get confirmation as one batch has given exam from India. One more concern I have I can practice anywhere though I am a UK solicitor.
Hi Dhanshree,
I have done my LLB from India and I am currently residing in the UK. I am also planning to sit for the MCT in July 2017 but at the moment I am bit confused about planning my studies. I have purchased Oxford Concentrates but I am not sure if these are enough for the exams as all I can see in them are references to old cases.
It would be great if you could please share your study plan / approach or material that you recommend. I am contactable on aromsharma@gmail.com
If anyone else can help or advise please feel free to reply.
I am also intend on giving the Feb 2017 attempt- have you bought the books and do you live in UK?
HI, Many thanks for your most Informative blog.. It would be really great if you could help me with important sections of the mct subjects. I feel every single topic as important and kinda clueless 🙁
Hi Priya, I’m very happy to help.
Just let me know what are you struggling with?
Hi Alegher,
I have done my LLB from India and I am currently residing in the UK. I am also planning to sit for the MCT in July 2017 but at the moment I am bit confused about planning my studies. I have purchased Oxford Concentrates but I am not sure if these are enough for the exams as all I can see in them are references to old cases.

Hi, a million thanks for such an informative blog. My MCT exam is scheduled next month and require some quick advice with regards to topics to be focused also help with study patters such as caselaws, etc. moreover the exactly same doubt as Priya has above. I am appearing for my MCT in India, anyone interested for quick revision do contact me.
are case laws asked in MCT?
Can we study the ‘Bare Acts’ ONLY for MCT, Like in INDIA-contract act, partnership act, Transfer of property act, easement act etc..
Hello , we can study Bare acts but what about case laws…Bare act only give you the term of law. Testbook will explain the concept. As for MCT they will ask a case and accordingly we have to choose a law which will be applicable. So in my opinion with bare acts you should study with testbook also with case laws.
all of u can write to contactcentre@sra.org.uk
I have already written to them highlighting the practical difficulties in understanding, procuring, searching study material for QLTS. Yhe previous qltt was bit better it seems. it had only 2 papers. If many people write highlighting the issues, they may rethink their policy. I’ve also written about course providers charging exorbitant fees because of this issue and so much dependence on them.
PLEASE WRIT AS MANY AS YOU CAN TO SRA
Hi,
Thankyou so much for providing us with valuable information.
It is given that MCT includes Part A of Day One Outcome while OSCE includes Part C,D,F. It is given on http://www.sra.org.uk/solicitors/qlts/key-features.page
So i want to ask, what is the role of remaining Parts B and E? Please Reply.
Hi Divya
thanks for your comment, happy to do something useful. Parts B (Intellectual, analytical and problem-solving skills) and E (Personal development and work management skills) are not tested with the QLTS because the SRA assumes that all candidates, as Foreign Qualified Lawyers, already possess those skills.
Also, it would be very hard to test those skills.
Cheers!
Hi,
Sorry disturbing you again. But your blog is undoubtedly amazing. I have read every single post you wrote.
I would request you to please guide me further.
I am a 4th year Indian lAw student. So what course should I opt among the following:
1. Pass QLTS after my law degree and then do L.L.M from U.K so as to increase my job prospects.
or
2. Only passing QLTS would suffice. If that is so, can i give the exam right after the end of 5th year and then applying to become qualified lawyer in my own country. Since SRA checks the same only after we have passed the exam.
Please provide any other better option according to you if i can opt for.
I would be really grateful of you.
Thank you.
Hi Divya, I appreciate your comments.
It’s very hard to give general suggestions like these, as they depend very much on personal circumstances. Also, remember that the QLTS is intended for foreign qualified lawyers willing to qualify in the UK – I would not recommend studying for it before you qualify in India.
Cheers!
Hi,
I am a qualified lawyer from India (Common law Jurisdiction) and moved here in UK in dec. 2015. I am preparing for the Feb 2017 mct.
I am working fulltime, so i want your help in how to manage my time for study.
I have purchased some of the above books as suggested, but i feel they are not covering all the topics of day one outcome for mct.
Thank you Alegher for your informative posts. and please guide me about any other books or material which can be helpful to prepare for MCT. if possible please share some past question paper n material for mct.
Cheers!
Hi Manisha, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately past papers are extremely hard to find, unless you agree to pay a fee to one of the course providers.
Which areas are not covered by the book?
Thanks!
M

Hi Alegher,
I am following all your bolgs to prepare for MCT. I have purchased all books from amazon referring the list you have mentioned here. But what about the taxation, accounting and money laundering from where i should purchase this. Kindly guide me.
Hi Dhanshree
thanks for following!
Foundations for the LPC, the second last book of the list, has sections that cover Taxation, Accounting and Money Laundering and others relevant for outcomes A3 and A4 of the MCT. You can order it directly from Amazon by clicking on the link.
Best!
Hi thanks a lot for your reply.
Hi Dhansree,
This is the latest edition of the book:https://global.oup.com/academic/product/foundations-for-the-lpc-2016-2017-9780198765943?cc=gb&lang=en&
Hi There, I am planning to appear in MCT test in Feb.2017.
Is QLTS School good for providing relevant material for MCT?
Thanks Rana
Hi Rana
QLTS School are probably the leaders in the market, and you can find loads of positive testimonials about them. I would love to hear comments from QLTS school students: how is the material they provide? and the support? is the course worth the fee?
Please share!
Hello Rana, Are you from india. I am also planning to give MCT on feb 2017.
dhanashreedunakhe19@gmail.com
Can you please tell me which book has the A2 constitution and constitutional principles in it? Is it part of the Concentrate English legal system? I did not remember seeing it in there.
Maybe in the “Public Law Concentrate”?
Hi Miriam
apologies for the late reply. As Brian suggests (thanks!) the Public Law Concentrate covers outcome A2.
Cheers!
Hello Alegher! I found the book “Accounts for Solicitors 2015/2016 (CLP Legal Practice Guides) Professor Lesley King” contained in another list on your site but in not this web page. Do you think it necessary to buy this book for the test preparation? I’m currently hesitating about it.
Hi Brian
Accounting for solicitors is a valid alternative if you want to deep dive into Outcome A3, SRA accounts. It has been suggested by other users, and I wanted to provide quality alternatives to you. You can find the table of content here:
http://www.clponline.co.uk/Accounts%20for%20Solicitors
Cheers!
And I also have a question about where I can find the content of A11 in OUP books your recommended? Business Law Concentrate doesn’t seem to contain things like sole traders and partnerships.
Hi Brian
Business Law Concentrate does cover the various trading structures (it’s chapter 9).
Let me know if you have better suggestions.
Cheers!
Hi to all. Sorry for posting my comment twice, but i see, that this topic is more active.
As everyone here, i’m planning to move to the UK too. I’m a lawyer from Bulgaria. What do you think about the situation with the job opportunities for solicitors (after we take the QLTS exam) in the UK? I’ve read a lot of articles and have spoken to some friends in the UK and the situation is not so good.
I’ve spoken to the SRA authorities too and they said, that, if we take the QLTS exam, we can apply for direct admission as solicitors in the roll, without any training contracts. That is good, but the job opportunities and the rising discrimination is bothering me a lot. What do you think?
Good luck to all in this battle: George
Hi George
thanks for your comment, I’d really love to hear from many of you around this subject.
I can only tell my experience, which so far has been fantastic in London. What I can’t tell is how things will change when Brexit will be triggered and then completed. For what I can see and hear, nobody has a clue but the only effect at the moment is the weak pound.
I still believe that London without its international population would be extremely weakened and less attractive to talent, and as a result the UK will pay a price for this choice.
What’s your view?
Cheers
M
Yes, London is an international megacity, but the prejudices exist and are rising. I can’t blame the local population, they are right for themselves, their concern is normal. But i’m worry about the equal chances for foreigners and locals by job search. What do the others here with more experience in London think about that? What are the chances to find a job as a solicitor, after we take the QLTS? What time did it take to find a job as a solicitor after the exam? I see a lot of job offers for paralegals, but there is a big difference in payment and status of a paralegal and a solicitor. I’ve read that the trend lately is to hire paralegals, because the costs for them are much lower. Is it worth to invest so much money and time for this exam, if we can’t find a proper job?
You definitely have a point there, but I can’t see London being affected in the long run. And in that scenario the foreigners will have what the locals struggle with: languages!
Hi, Marco. Thank you again for this site, it’s really helpful to discuss and exchange some information. How long did it took you to find a job as a solicitor in London and are you working now as a solicitor there? I’ve spoken with a German paralegal, working in London since 1 year about the situation now. Although he took the QLTS before 3 years, he still can’t find a proper job as a solicitor in London and for now is working as a paralegal. He told me that there are a lot of unemployed solicitors on the market. I personally speak German and Russian and hope that this 2 languages will help me to find a job after taking the QLTS exam. The German told me that the best way to find a job in London is through a recruitment agency,
Hi George,
I’ve moved the discussion to the new “FORUM” section of the blog. You’ll find my reply there.
Thanks
Hi everybody! Does someone sell his MCT books? Please write me at avvmariafiorito@gmail.com.
Thanks and good luck to you all!

Hi Everyone,
I am an Indian qualified lawyer and I am also sitting for the QLTS MCT on 03.07.2019.
As of now, I have been able to source the books / written material (hard copies) of QLTS MCT (2019) from a friend, however, I am also looking to gain access to any mock tests / online question banks etc. as I don’t have any subscription of my own.
If in case anyone of you have subscribed to any online modules / mock tests / preparatory material for the MCT, I would like to request you to please share the access with me.
Hoping for a positive response. (nimanniyu.sharma@gmail.com)
