My name is Marco and I’m the guy behind PasstheQlts. As you would imagine, I graduated in Law in Italy and qualified as a solicitor in Italy and Spain. I was working in house for a retail company for the last few years in Italy, but then decided I needed a change of perspective, culture, opportunities and so on. And London was the answer to my internal struggle! I moved to London and now it’s time to set the next steps in my career. To be totally honest I knew that the only logical step, unless you are looking for a career change (yes, but what?), if you want to practice Law in the UK, is what this blog is about: to pass the QLTS Exam, the Qualified Transfer Scheme! Really, I am just a guy who has the goal to pass the QLTS Exam to build a professional career in Law in London. I will share my study plan with you, read all the possible guides, interview successful candidates and try to post everything online. Of course any help, question, comment or suggestion from you will be greatly appreciated!

Best of luck!

  1. Hi Marco,

I stay in a non- EU country and was wondering what would be the books that would be available for QLTS.

I saw your list and wanted to know if those books covered all the Day 1 outcomes.

how can i reach out to you ? to have a chat or maybe email exchange ?

    • Hi Saurabh!
Thanks for your comment, please keep posting comments here or on other posts so that it will benefit anyone else!
That is the spirit of Pass the Qlts.
I am still reviewing the books but from what I can see they cover everything needed for the MCT part of the QLTS.
I will add any other book to the list in due course, if need be.
Remember that you can get the books from Amazon or directly from Oxford University Press here, sent to most countries for a reasonable fee.

  2. Hi Marco,
I am an Italian qualified lawyer with several years of practice (let’s say 20) under my belt. As you know, the legal profession in Italy has been going through a very tough crisis for a very long time and, worse than that, it’s really hard, if not impossible, to see daylight. I am, therefore, seriously considering the idea of undertaking the QLTS preparation in the hope that, as a dual-qualified lawyer, I will be able to work in an international environment and, hopefully, get far away from here. That said, I want first of all congratulate you on your very useful website. Secondly, I would like to know if there is a deadline to meet to take the OSCE once passing the MCT. What happens if I failed the OSCE? Should I take the MTC again? Thanks for your time.

    • Hi Vincenzo
thanks for your comment and welcome on board!
I know exactly your situation, and even though we may have different backgrounds we both came to the same conclusion.
I can’t say you are coming to the right decision, as there’s no right or wrong when it comes to life changes, but what I can say is that at least you have a job market over here (ie London). Please get in touch if I can help you, I’ll be happy to!
To answer your question, recently (May 2015) the SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority) approved a series amendments to the QLTS exam.
In short, before the amendment you could sit the exam for a maximum number of times and you had to complete it within a 5 years period.
Now those limits have been removed, so you can sit the MCT and your result will be “banked” untill you have passed the OSCE.
Good luck with everything and do take care!

  3. hi!!
I am taking my MCT soon..just a quick question where do I start from ?? just so confused as to which books / courses to follow..Have you finished ur exams or are u still doing it ??how many hours in a day you need to study??
    please help

  4. I have just started on this process. I am an american attorney, with about 20 years of practice. I have moved to the UK due to my husband’s job and would like to try to get licensed here so I can continue to work in law. I was very excited to find your website. In my web searching I wanted to let you know that the OUP (concentrate books) website has a lot of on-line resources including a test bank (while I stress these are NOT prep tests for the MCT they may be able to help make sure the person is grasping the material)

  6. Hi Alegher,

First thanks for all the tips!

I’m an Argentinian qualified lawyer and I just moved to London a month ago.

My question to you and everyone else that could help is how long do you think is needed for a correct preparation for the MCT and the OSCE exams?

    • Hola Augustina, first of all welcome to London! It is really hard to tell because each person is different and has different skills abilities. Another factor to take into account is your level of knowledge of the English legal system, of common law and the English language. Anyway, I would say that 1 year is the minimum required to get a decent preparation. I’m happy to help if you need, but I’m also sure that someone else can share their experience with you. Marco

  7. Hi folks, I’ve just find out about QLTS, and it is just amazing to have the possibility to pursue our law careers without study law in the UK all over again. I am a Lawyer, graduated in Brazil, and I would appreciate if you have any tips and books to buy (or even to sell) as I am starting studying for the OSCE from the scratch.

Marco – thanks for this great idea to create this group.

  8. Hi guys, I am sitting the July 2018 MCT and in order to help me grasping the material I have put together a series of multiple choice questions together from different sources. They are all available for free but it is helping me to have them all together in a single file (I created one file per outcome). If you’d like to have access to it I am happy to share.

  9. Hi Marco,

Thank you for a brilliant website, its been incredibly helpful in connecting with fellow test-takers for the upcoming November session.

Had a quick question for you regarding the OSCE, which course would you suggest?

I think the general consensus is QLTS School, but it seems they are lacking in some subjects and people suggest taking OSCE Smart in conjunction with it. On the other hand I know the QLTS Advantage have merged with City Law School and am considering whether they are better then they used to be now.

If you were taking the OSCE again, what resource would you choose?

Your help is greatly appreciated, thank you again!

    Kind Regards,
